Overview
Reference to the Museum's exhibits. Some of the objects in the portfolio are priceless, ancient and unique. Everything is great, but we especially highlight the large epistle painted by a Constantinopolitan iconographer (14th century - Paleologian Art), the icon of the Virgin Mary (12th century with purely Byzantine features - Comnenian Art). The unique gospel printed in Genoa, Italy in 1550, at the time when our country was under Venetian rule, with a wonderful metal cover, about 1000 years old and made in Constantinople, is unique in the whole world. An excellent diptych, from the end of the 14th beginning of the 15th century, with the characteristics of the art of Sinai, represents several figures: the Virgin kissing her son for the last time before the tomb, a beautiful Crucifixion is represented, a wonderful Annunciation and three great Saints of our Church: St. Nikolaos, St. John the Baptist and St. Antonio, the so-called "Professor of the Desert". At the bottom of the diptych on the right and left are depicted martyrs of Christianity. On the left, St. Procopius and St. Mercurius and among them Saint Bartholomew with a color as red as blood, a sign of his sanctification and martyrdom, because as is known the Saint was martyred after his holy body was flayed. On the right side of the diptych, three large figures of holy women are depicted: The Great Martyr Barbara and the Great Martyr Marina as well as Saint Fotini. The surprise for us was one of our icons, painted by a Constantinople iconographer in the 14th century. and it was revealed to us by a Byzantineologist professor of the University of Athens who visited us earlier. The professor in question informed us that it is the only image in the world called "The Informant Lord" (Because he had been researching this unique image since his youth and discovered it in Kalopanagiotis at an advanced age!). In the iconostasis there is also an icon of the Virgin Mary right-handed from the 15th to 16th century. type of Kykkotissa, which is "perspective", that is, wherever the believer stands, the Virgin Mary turns her entire head (a great and rare art in iconography). The icon is charismatic and miraculous as informed by the residents of Kalopanagiotis and was located in the church of Panagia tis Theotokou. Among the rare treasures is a part of an incredible iconostasis, a rare colored structure that once belonged to the church of Panagia tis Theotokou. The visitor can take a guided tour of the Iconophylakio, to get to know a part of the cultural heritage of Kalopanagiotis up close.
